Scientific ChairmanChristian Chaussy Dear Colleagues and Friends Dear Representatives of the Pharmaceutic and Medical Industry Twenty-four years after the last WCE-congress organized by Prof. Peter Alken in Mainz, Germany has the honor to host this important meeting again. Therefore, we are very happy to cordially invite you to the wonderful city of Munich to attend the 27th World Congress on Endourology and SWL from October 6th to 10th, 2009
Munich as Capital of the State of Bavaria combines the International flair of a big city with the sociability and coziness of the Bavarian culture. In former times, Munich was the residence of the Kings of Bavaria who constructed beautiful castles, gardens and elegant monuments. All this makes the city an unique attraction for vistors all over the world. Based on our personal knowledge, we want to present to you this place with all its cultural facettes to make your visit an unforgettable one. We are proud to provide a National Organizing Committee and International Scientific Board with esteemed experts in the field of - Minimally Invasive Surgery, - Endourology and - Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy. The Congress will be supported also by the Academy of the German Urologists, the German Shock Wave Society, and the EAU-section of Uro-technology. This will allow us to update interested colleagues with all technological innovations in the increasing field of video-endoscopic surgery and focal therapy in Urology. Live-surgery will be supported professionally by - the Department of Urology, Medical School Rechts der Isar in Munich (Head: Prof. Dr. J. Gschwend), - the Department of Urology, Medical School of Regensburg (Head: Prof. Dr. W. Wieland) and - the Department of Urology Klinikum Harlaching, Munich (Head: Prof. Dr. C. Chaussy). Traditionally, we will demonstrate - endourological techniques, - focal therapy, - laparoscopic and robotic assisted surgery as well as transurethral procedures. Hands-on courses focussing on ureteroscopy, laparoscopy, and transurethral techniques will allow beginners to be trained by the experts, but will also help experienced urologist to improve their technical skills. The well-established Pro-and-Con-debates will be integrated to stimulate the discussion of 'hot topics' among the delegates. Additionally, during the main session we will invite experts to give state-of-the-art lectures on issues challenging the future of our profession, such as - Robotics, - NOTES, - Focal Therapy, - Medical Oncology. Every morning, we will offer Breakfast Seminars and Courses run by the best-known International Faculty. In smaller groups, delegates will be able to ask questions and discuss their individual problems. In the tradition of the Endourological Society, we want to minimize parallel sessions in the morning to achieve a concentrated exchange of science and experience. In the afternoon, the audience will be split according to the different topics of video and poster sessions. For dedicated presentations, Videoposter-sessions (V-poster) are planned. The famous English Garden situated close to the Sheraton Grand Hotel will present an excellent stage for the Fund Run sponsoring the Joseph Segura Foundation. In the evening, delegates and faculty are cordially invited to relax in the atmosphere of the royal history in the Residence (Welcome Reception, 7th October 2009), but also experience the famous 'Gemütlichkeit' of an Bavarian Beer Festival provided by an original Octoberfest-host (WCE-evening, 9th October 2009). Pre- and post-Congress tours may allow you to complete your Bavarian experience. We are looking forward to welcome you in Munich
